Challenge, Solution, My Role
Chanllenge
Users needed one simple, guided place to manage their solar journey — from sign-up to installation to real-time monitoring. Without it, adoption stalls, transparency is lost, and long-term engagement never builds.

As the product designer, my goal was to simplify the journey, give users clarity, and keep them engaged long after installation. I worked closely with stakeholders, ran user interviews, and mapped the solar adoption journey

The Requirement and Research
Day 1 - 3
Goal Alignment
The PM briefed me on the app’s core vision, target users, and success metrics. We aimed to build an ecosystem that motivates users to generate rooftop solar energy while simplifying how they track their impact and progress over time.
Discussion & brainstorming.
I collaborated with the PM to translate business goals into design opportunities. During brainstorming, we focused on creating a habit-forming experience that keeps users engaged beyond initial setup. Inspired by Duolingo’s gamified learning approach, we explored how progress tracking, milestones, and friendly challenges could make sustainability more enjoyable and rewarding.
Research & Inspiration
User Journey & Flow I mapped the end-to-end journey—from installation to energy generation—to uncover friction points and opportunities to streamline user actions. Motivation & Engagement I researched behavioral design strategies to encourage referrals, long-term participation, and consistent energy generation, studying how products like Fitbit and Forest sustain user engagement. Target Audience Analysis Defined primary and secondary personas (homeowners, small business owners, and eco-conscious users). Studied their motivations, constraints, and digital behavior to ensure the app aligns with real-world needs. Pain Points & Opportunities Identified challenges users face in adopting solar solutions—such as complex onboarding, unclear ROI, and lack of community validation. These insights guided early design hypotheses and opportunity mapping.

Design, Iterations & Prototyping
Day 4-7
Home page concept
Designing the homepage was challenging, but after multiple iterations and thoughtful exploration, I had a breakthrough.

Energy Tracking
We wanted users to visualize their energy generation, which made conceptualizing challenging, but a late-night brainstorming session sparked the breakthrough.

Iteration
Most iterations focused on simplifying user flows and refining the core concept. Due to development time constraints, we also structured the design in phases for easier rollout.
Handoff & Design support
Day 7 to deploy
Delivery
Since it was a completely new app, I also designed the App Store and Play Store mockups along with a monogram icon for the phone launcher.
Constant touch with PM & Developers
We followed an agile process to stay flexible, as development often comes with time-based constraints and unforeseen limitations.
Design QA review.
Once the app is deployed in the QA environment, I conduct a thorough review of the UI/UX to ensure everything aligns with the intended design and experience.
